The pursuit to be a successful Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter can be a daunting task. The same could be said for being a successful parent. Sheena Brandenburg is a single mother living a dual life. With the inspiration to succeed in her binary roles coming from the dream she shared with her deceased fiancée.

As Barbara stands in the middle of her backyard, a cool breeze caresses her face, drying the damp spots on her cheeks. It’s dusk in Portland and mildly chilly. Giving the breeze a cold bite. But that bite is mild compared to the bite Barbara felt last night at the realization that the love of her life, Donald, was sleeping around with her widowed neighbor Aksanna.
There was a time when all a parent had to buy for their child, to prepare them for the new school year, was a few notebooks and an assortment of writing/drawing utensils. Well, like the classic Bob Dylan song puts it, “the times, they are a changing.”
This is my first mini-podcast. It is a work in-progress, but a fun little first attempt at the medium and a sign of things to come.
As a student and aspiring journalist, I understand the hard work necessary in the pursuit of a dream. However, my aspirations to be a success in this field doesn’t require the experience of taking a right hook to the face (luckily for me).
