Contemplations on a WWE Brand Extension: Why it’s “Best for Business” and Could Be Done Better

In 2002 the WWE came up with an innovative business strategy. They split their company’s roster of talent into two separate promotions, or brands. The Raw brand and its opposite, the Smackdown brand. By 2011 the initiative had run its course and the two shows’ rosters were merged once again. However, with the recent return of Shane McMahon, rumors are abound of a possible return of the “brand extension.”

“Marvel’s Daredevil” Season Two – Official Trailer

Daredevil, Punisher, Elektra…and The Hand?!?! Season two of “Marvel’s Daredevil”, on Netflix, is setting up to be a bloody, sexy, roller coaster of violence. Sure to send any fanboy into a geek-gasm.

Netflix has just released the official trailer for the new season, debuting March 18th. The video shows off more footage of Elodie Yung’s Elektra Natchios. The one time lover of Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock, and deadly martial-artist. Her and Matt’s story looks to be more central to the overall plot of the season then we were originally lead to believe.

And you can’t have a new trailer without more action from Jon Bernthal as the Punisher. But the big revelation is that we will get our first glimpse’s of the underground crime syndicate known as The Hand. The long time foe of Daredevil in the comics (like Hydra is to Captain America), they are sure to enable the creators of the show to unleash some hellacious fight scenes upon our eyes, as the season plays out.

You can find the trailer below, ready for your fanboy/girl review, in all its glory.

Chris Jericho and A.J. Styles Show That Terrific Non-Title Story-Telling is Alive and Well

Story-telling is one of the unique characteristics that makes an athletic spectacle like professional wrestling special. However, in recent times it seems like good story telling in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) only comes when a championship belt is the impetus for a rivalry. A.J. Styles and Chris Jericho are showing fans, and their contemporaries in the company, a feud between two performers can be very successful without “the gold” being on the line.

Casting Conundrum: Should Iron First be Played by an Asian (American) Actor?

Below is the link to a fantastic piece by Alex Abad-Santos from Vox. It analyzes the on-going debate on if Marvel should cast an actor with an Asian, or Asian American, background in the lead for their Netflix series Iron Fist. It articulates clearly the pros and cons of the debate. While giving some key background on the character and why it makes for awkward story-telling in the world we live in today.

So after giving it a look I pose the question to you: Should Iron Fist not be played by a white man that matches the character in the books?

Jeffrey Dean Morgan Cast as Negan in the Walking Dead – via

I absolutely LOVE this casting! I’am glad that AMC and the producers of the show took their time with this and waited to find the right guy. Negan is such a fun character in that you love him while hating him. Unlike the Governor who is a sadistic and completely insane killer, Negan is sort of a cool jock whose had his murder-knob turned up to the max because of the ego he has gained from being the alpha male of a bunch of crazies. He has a presence. He is a cold-blooded murderer with a handsome-charisma that makes him hard to hate. And his way of looking at the post-apocalyptic world he lives in is not necessarily wrong. He is a survivor like Rick, though he prefers to rule with a righteous iron fist.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan can completely pull that off. He is ruggedly good looking with a famous actors charm. But he also has the ability to play a man on the edge, that can turn aggressive instantly. This casting has hit it right on the head, with a barb wired bat.
